Summer School Tutoring

BerlinSummer school tutoring is a unique challenge for both students and online tutors. That challenge hits a boiling point when exhaustion from the previous school year meets with lowered expectations for a summer vacation.

Long story short, many students simply don’t want to take part in summer school tutoring sessions for a variety of understandable reasons. Online tutors will need to adapt to the changing climate of the online classroom. What was once test prep, exam preparation, and homework help has turned into a barrier that prevents summer school students from a vacation.

If you’re an online tutor, keep the following ideas in mind when you tackle the summer school tutoring challenge.

Summer school tutoring sessions usually run an hour.

Depending on the age of your student, an hour may very well be an eternity—especially if your student would rather be playing video games than working on schoolwork.

Remind your students that there is a limited window to work together, and that an hour won’t drain their entire day. This will get them focused on the tutoring session, and will allow you to teach more efficiently.

Summer school tutoring sessions prepare students for an easier year ahead.

Summer school happens for a number of reasons—some parents or students opt for summer sessions while other students have to make up for poor performance in the previous year.

What matters most is that summer school tutoring prepares the student for an easier year ahead. Summer vacation is fun, but it’s nothing compared to better grades once the school doors reopen.

Summer school tutoring doesn’t happen in the traditional classroom.

A change of environment has a great impact, especially when it comes to education. For months and months, students have sat in the same desk, heard the same announcements, and read the same textbooks. Online tutoring provides a different arena for enhanced education, and your student will most likely not feel as if they’re in school at all.
